day 5: lookie lookie, i made a cookie

I'm about as french as a bag of potatoes, but that doesn't mean I can't bake french macarons!

They are not as difficult as they may seem, if you know your way around the kitchen. As you can see though, I still had a few problems. That just means I get to eat them right then and there!

Filled with raspberry jam. Yum!

The little baby ones were the first batch. I thought they were going to spread out some, but they didn't. Oh well. They're just little mini sandwiches of sweet deliciousness. Crunchy and chewy and sweet and tangy. Awesome.

whatever a sun will always sing is you

Title courtesy of ee cummings.

Feeling very "hopeless romantic" today.

Just a little preview of a personal piece that's been in the works for a while.

Lyric for today:
"Wishing you could keep me closer. I'm a lazy dancer; when you move, I move with you."
(see the first song in my playlist at the bottom of the page)

And here's a picture of the green smoothies I drink now that I know how to make them really well:

Delicious. But I'm now out of spinach.

melissa the foodie & the green smoothie

Some may know that I am an adventurous eater. I will try anything once, and I especially like to try health foods. Today, I thought I would try a green smoothie, made with leafy greens along with fruit based off of the recipe in the video. I put in 1 frozen banana, about a cup of fresh strawberries and blueberries, about half a cup of orange juice and a splash of water and 4 leaves of romaine (I didn't have any spinach, a rare occurrence in my house. We're big on spinach.).

It turned out a bit on the brown side (red and green make brown...), but was still very tasty. I could kind of taste the romaine through the fruit, but it was very fresh. And healthy!

Be adventurous and do something good for your body!

Take it from Jen, this summer is a happy one, filled with delicious drinks, fresh and tasty fruit, and memorable sweets from memorable places.

Is there anything better than sweet strawberries and great friends?

spontaneity

......So......

I've had this craving for truffles since at least Monday.

And then I watched "Julie & Julia" today.

Inspired? Definitely. Mmmm.... truffles.
Here they are:

They may seem daunting and intimidating, but they are certainly far from it.
Here's the recipe I used: {link}
I find irony in the URL address considering my major.

And I definitely freaked out when I saw this in Julie & Julia:

When I went to Paris, this was Samantha's must-stop-and-browse places (find her in my sidebar!). Trust me, it was so worth it!!!

That's my shot of the inside. Books from top to bottom in that place. And if you stand in that doorway facing out, you get a spectacular view of Notre Dame. And it's English-speaking. Such a relief!
